From the abundance of Art Deco architecture in the neighbourhood to the annual Art Basel fair, Miami’s creativity knows no bounds. Sourcing international and local artists through referrals and galleries including Art Angels and Valli Art, Mandarin Oriental, Miami’s Art in Residence programme elevates their guest experience by creating an inspiring environment that pays homage to the area’s culture.

Featuring predominantly contemporary art that rotates every few months, the pieces are selected to bring the feeling of the Wynwood and the Design Districts inside while working in harmony with the Asian-influenced interiors of the hotel. Guests are treated to a diverse curation of work:the lobby is shared by Ranier Lagemann’s sculptural hanging divers that illuminate at night, while canvases and wood panel pieces in the MO Bar + Lounge and throughout the hotel by Flavio Galvan, Flore, Bernard Dunaux, Berlingeri and Amadio deliver arresting plays of colour and texture. Craig Alan paints tiny crowds of hundreds of individual figures that form celebrity portraits, encouraging Mandarin Oriental, Miami’s guests to slow down by drawing them in for a closer look.

During Miami Art week, Mandarin Oriental, Miami installs an exhibit in the lobby followed by a closing cocktail reception at the MO Bar + Lounge to celebrate the week. Previous years have seen prestigious partnerships with Harry Winston, Desmond Mason and Diamonds Unleashed by Kara Ross.

For December 2019, they are partnering with the New York Academy of Art for the second time, presenting an art installation themed “Bliss” curated by American actress and trustee Brooke Shields and model and photographer Helena Christensen. There’s plenty of immersive experiences to tantalise the senses:an exclusive personal tour of Art Miami or Art Basel alongside Miami’s top art curator, Franklin Sirmans, Director of the Perez Art Museum Miami; an Art Week brunch at signature restaurant La Mar by Gaston Acurio, where Flavio Galvan will create a masterpiece before your eyes; and nail designs at The Spa inspired by the art created by the New York Academy of Art.
