Orlebar Brown + Gerry McGovern

This season we have partnered with Gerry McGovern, Chief Design Officer of Land Rover to develop an exclusive capsule collection. A shared passion and interest in detail and modern design, make Gerry McGovern the perfect collaborator for Orlebar Brown. The collection is divided into three distinct sections to mirror the different facets of Gerry's life and lives of the Orlebar Brown man.

The Painterly Stripe

The painterly stripe element features original artwork created by Gerry McGovern reinterpreted across our classic Bulldog shorts and lightweight OB-Ts.

The Painterly Stripe

The striking brush strokes have an abstract impression of motion that echo Gerry's passion for modern art. They introduce an aquatic palette that reflects the Orlebar Brown aesthetic and evoke summer with superior Italian cottons characterised by the strength and breathability of the fabric and softness of colour.

I have always been a fan of Gerry and the fabulour products he designs. He is also one of our best customers and has been enormously supportive over the years. I am delighted that he agreed to work with us on this exciting capsule collection as part of our 10th anniverdsary.

The Swim Suit

The Swim Suit

The sartorial Savile Row side of Gerry is reflected in the slightly tongue in cheek—but wholly swimmable—‘suit you can swim in'. The Swim Suit is made from an Italian cotton blend with white weft to replicate Chambray fabric for a truly authentic finish. Gerry himself dresses immaculately and has a very distinct sartorial style; he has all his suits made in Saville Row — once you put all these factors together the ‘suit you can swim in’ made complete sense.

This collaboration brings together two of my passions; contemporary art and design and sartorial elegance. The opportunity to bring some of my thinking around the importance of modern art in today's aesthetic environment is matched by Adam's commitment to delivering a true customisation of a globally renowned product. In doing so I believe we have delivered a unique vision for the individualism shared by both brands.

Shortility

To capture Gerry's interest in fitness, we tweaked our iconic design details from eyelets on the outerwear to the oxidised ring snaps. To further enhance the shortility element, pieces feature reflective detailing and prints were added to give flashes of light and colour.

This collection emulates a utility feel infusing both brands creative capabilities by combining the rugged functionality of Gerry’s creations with the tailored craftsmanship of OB.
