In 1983 the Motorola DynaTAC 8000X became the world’s first commercial, truly portable mobile phone; the first step on a path that would revolutionise the communications industry. By 1973 Motorola had produced a working DynaTAC portable phone prototype, but it took ten years and US$100 million investment in cellular infrastructure before it reached the market. Rudy Krolopp and his design team created a new typology in deciding the phone’s form, which was likened by Krolopp himself to a shoe. The phone featured a red LED display and offered 30 minutes of talk time and 8 hours of standby, and weighed 790 grams. At time of release it was priced at US$3,995. Once a symbol of wealth and technological progress, the DynaTAC was soon made obsolete by Motorola’s own product development, and has since been reduced to a whimsical anachronism – but one that changed the lives of people around the world.

If the goods are returned to us, a second redelivery charge will be incurred.
If no one is available at the delivery address to sign for the goods a card will be left with details for re-delivery and/or collection. Organising a redelivery is the responsibility of the customer.
Handling and custom fees may apply to packages sent outside the E.U. Any duties payable will be the sole responsibility of the customer and may need to be paid at the time of delivery.
Items sent outside the U.S. will incur a handling fee from the carrier not included in the postage price.
